The design responds to the unusually-shaped site by dividing the house into two distinct blocks with a traditionally proportioned terraced house to the front and to the rear, a long, low-pitched roofed ‘extension’, expressed visually as a timber box resting upon the stone boundary wall. The internal layout uses gallery landings, atrium and exterior spaces to maximise the light access, achieving privacy and tranquillity through innovative design.
